Draft for legal review

Terms and safeguarding

This is a starting draft. Have it reviewed by a Ghanaian lawyer before launch.

What BestTeacher Academy is

BestTeacher Academy connects parents with freelance teachers for extra classes. Teachers are independent contractors, not employees. BestTeacher sets lesson prices, collects payment from parents, and pays teachers for each lesson they deliver, less BestTeacher's commission.

Parents

Parents create the account and register their wards. Parents choose the teacher, the time, the lesson type and the place, and remain responsible for supervising their wards' lessons. Parents prepay lessons through BestTeacher at the published price. Paid lessons that have not been taught are refunded if the class ends. A parent can report a problem with a lesson within 48 hours, and we check it before the teacher is paid.

Teachers

Teachers work freelance and are paid only for lessons delivered and logged in the app. Earnings become payable 48 hours after the lesson unless the parent reports a problem, and are paid by MoMo. Teachers must give true information, upload genuine documents, keep their weekly availability up to date, and turn up for accepted classes. A teacher may be suspended while a concern is looked into.

Safeguarding rules

Teachers must not contact a student outside the arrangements the parent agreed, must not meet a student anywhere other than the agreed lesson place, and must not ask a student to keep anything secret from their parent. In-person lessons at an agreed location should be at a school or another public, supervised place.

If you are worried about a child's safety, contact the police or the Department of Social Welfare straight away, and tell our team so we can suspend the account.

Your data

We store the information you give us to run the service. Teachers' documents are seen only by our verification team. Addresses and phone numbers are shown to the other party only after a class is accepted.
